Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between a traditional Interior Designer and the work at "Love the Home you're In"?

At 'Love the Home You're In' I focus on using what already exists in the space as the first step in the process of transformation. This does not require many expensive purchases (although it can of course, if the Client desires). By moving things around, or highlighting various items or elements of the space we can get to the heart of what is important to the client, and setting up the space so that it functions optimally for the client. Sometimes this will lead to other more significant changes...but the first steps are usually fairly non-invasive and are relatively inexpensive. We will be "tailoring" what is already there.

2. Why are you better than going with a contractor?

I am a great first step for clarifying what you may or may not want for contractor services. I can help you determine and decide whether or not a contractor is needed, and if yes, how to begin to scope out a plan for presenting to a contractor of your choice.

3. Why should I hire you?

I am a great leaping-off point for changing up your space so that it is more appealing to you. I am a small-time financial commitment in comparison to the services of an Interior Designer or contractor, and my motivation is to help you find joy in the space you already have through improving its functionality and presentation. If you ultimately want the services of an Interior Designer or Construction Contractor, I can help you prioritize and define your wishes so that your future conversations with them will be more efficient and ultimately help you arrive at what truly serves you.

4. Do you do any painting and repair work ?

I can do minor painting and repair work if asked as part of the return visit ("Getting it Done").

5. Do I need to buy lots of things to make this work?

I prefer to start off with the objects and furniture which are already in the space and that have significance to the homeowner.  If it becomes clear over the arc of our conversation that the client would be happier with some newer purchases, we can talk about what things may make sense to arrive at the final destination of "Loving the Home You are In".

6. If I do want to buy things, can you help me choose and find them?

I can help identify furniture/objects/artwork that will appeal to the client, and offer suggestions about where to find them. I am happy to work with the client in wading through Facebook Marketplace, 2nd Hand Stores, or any retail option that may appeal.

7. Can you help me come up with a construction plan?

If after our initial visit it becomes clear that construction is the best or most desirable option for the client, I can help get the ball rolling on that. I have a deep connection with the ins and outs of construction - including what is feasible and what is not- and I am happy to share my insights and guidance.

8. Do you do closet organization?

I can help with closet purging and organization as part of the return visit:"Getting it Done"

9. Do you know about/incorporate the work of Feng Shui and Marie Kondo?

I have studied both the Mari Kondo and Feng Shui philosphies. While I do not like to adhere strictly to either philosophy, both influence some of my approach to space transformation.

10. How long will it take?

This of course depends on what you would like to accomplish, and how many rooms you would like to take on.  My initial visit/consult will be about 2 hours long. At that point, we will get a better sense of how much assistance the client would like in the "Getting it Done" phase going forward.
